What Can You Sell On ebay - Anything?

There are many, many members of the eBay network – some 100million people in fact. When you use ebay, you can buy many different items in near enough any category that you can think of – Through eBay, you can buy items in almost any category that you can imagine – at great prices. You can also sell almost anything you can imagine on eBay – people often sell items that have absolutely no real value for very high prices. There are limits, however, to what can be bought and sold.

What you can’t sell on eBay

Restricted items – eBay doesn’t permit you to sell certain items through an auction on their site.  Selling services is considered one type of ‘item’ that can not be auctioned on eBay, as the item isn’t actually an item at all. However, some sellers do clearly ignore this condition and set up an eBay auction selling their services.  eBay also doesn’t allow anyone to open an auction for anything that is considered illegal, with eBay restricting any item that they consider could be constituted as ‘illegal for sale’ in any other format too. So, illegal items on the street, such as satellite descramblers are not allowed to be sold.

Copyrighted material - such as copies of DVDs, CDs, and software.  All of these items can not be sold on an eBay auction. However, you can sell a CD, DVD, or software if you bought it legitimately, as long as the original product is sold and it isn’t a copy of the item. eBay does not allow the sale of ‘replicas.’ A replica is a knock-off version of designer items, such as purses, dresses, shoes, or sunglasses that look identical to those that have designer labels.

Items regulated by state or federal government  – such items as alcohol, weapons, tobacco, and prescription and illegal drugs can’t be sold on an eBay auction at all.  However, there are minor exceptions to the rule here; such as if you have a collectible tobacco tin, that contains tobacco then this can be sold, provided that you had not opened the contents of the item, and that you state on sale that the contents of the item are not for consumption – there are also a few more conditions for selling these types of collectible items on eBay.

Animals & Reptiles – No breed or type of reptile or animal can be sold on eBay, whether through a store, eBay auction or otherwise. Now, this also includes any parts of animals such as ivory that used to be part of a living animals.  If you have a doubt then I would suggest contacting eBay direct with any questions.

Types of tickets – Tickets are allowed to be sold at eBay auctions, but you can not sell a ticket for a price higher than your original purchase price you paid for the ticket, as this is known as ticket scalping, and is illegal. You also can’t sell Lottery tickets and scratch cards on eBay auctions due to the sensitivity of if you won or lost heavily.

So, here you have a quick run down on what to sell on ebay if you are looking to gain from running a successful eBay business.
